في تطور يثير صدمة واسعة في الأوساط السياسية والثقافية الفرنسية، أعلن مكتب المدعي العام المالي في فرنسا، الجمعة، فتح تحقيق أولي بحق وزير الثقافة والتعليم الأسبق جاك لانغ، الرئيس الحالي للمعهد العربي في باريس، وابنته كارولين، على خلفية علاقات مشبوهة جمعتهما برجل الأعمال الأمريكي المدان بجرائم جنسية، جيفري إبستين.
وأوضح المكتب، بحسب ما نقلته وكالة “فرانس برس”، فإن التحقيق يتركز حول شبهات “غسل أموال” مرتبطة بعائدات تهرب ضريبي، ناجمة عن تعاملات مالية يُعتقد أنها تمت بين لانغ وابنته من جهة، وإبستين من جهة أخرى.
ويُعد جاك لانغ أبرز شخصية فرنسية يطالها هذا الملف حتى الآن، وذلك بعد نشر وزارة العدل الأمريكية ملايين الوثائق المرتبطة بإبستين، الذي أنهى حياته داخل زنزانته عام 2019 أثناء محاكمته بتهم الاتجار بالبشر والاستغلال الجنسي.
وفي تعليق رسمي، قال وزير الخارجية الفرنسي جان-نويل بارو، خلال زيارة له إلى أربيل في إقليم كردستان العراق، إن لانغ “تم استدعاؤه من قبل الوزارة، وسيُستقبل يوم الأحد”. وأضاف لاحقاً من بيروت أن “المعطيات الأولية التي بدأت بالظهور من هذه الملفات جديدة وخطيرة للغاية”، مؤكداً أنها تستدعي تدقيقاً معمقاً وشاملاً.
وكشفت تقارير إعلامية فرنسية عن تواصل متكرر بين لانغ وإبستين، قيل إنه جرى في إطار طلب تمويلات أو خدمات، فيما برز اسم ابنته كارولين في وثائق تعود لشركة خارجية يملكها جزئياً رجل الأعمال الأمريكي المدان.
وعلى وقع هذه التطورات، أعلنت كارولين لانغ، يوم الاثنين، استقالتها من منصبها كرئيسة لـ”نقابة المنتجين المستقلين” في قطاعي السينما والتلفزيون.
في المقابل، نفى جاك لانغ أي معرفة له بجرائم إبستين، رغم إدانة الأخير منذ عام 2008 بتهمة استدراج قاصر لممارسة الدعارة. كما رفض، يوم الأربعاء، الاستقالة من رئاسته للمعهد العربي في باريس، متجاهلاً موجة واسعة من الدعوات التي طالبت بتنحيه، في انتظار ما ستكشفه التحقيقات القادمة من حقائق قد تعيد رسم المشهد بالكامل.
In a development that has shocked the French political and cultural circles, the French financial prosecutor’s office announced on Friday the opening of a preliminary investigation against former Minister of Culture and Education Jack Lang, the current president of the Arab Institute in Paris, and his daughter Caroline, due to their suspicious connections with the American businessman convicted of sexual crimes, Jeffrey Epstein.
The office clarified, according to what was reported by the “France Presse” agency, that the investigation focuses on suspicions of “money laundering” linked to proceeds from tax evasion, resulting from financial dealings believed to have occurred between Lang and his daughter on one side, and Epstein on the other.
Jack Lang is considered the most prominent French figure implicated in this case so far, following the publication by the U.S. Department of Justice of millions of documents related to Epstein, who ended his life in his cell in 2019 while on trial for charges of human trafficking and sexual exploitation.
In an official comment, French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, during a visit to Erbil in the Kurdistan region of Iraq, stated that Lang “has been summoned by the ministry and will be received on Sunday.” He later added from Beirut that “the initial data that has begun to emerge from these files is new and extremely serious,” emphasizing that it requires thorough and comprehensive scrutiny.
French media reports revealed repeated communications between Lang and Epstein, which were said to have occurred in the context of requests for funding or services, while his daughter Caroline’s name appeared in documents belonging to an offshore company partially owned by the convicted American businessman.
In light of these developments, Caroline Lang announced on Monday her resignation from her position as president of the “Union of Independent Producers” in the cinema and television sectors.
In contrast, Jack Lang denied any knowledge of Epstein’s crimes, despite the latter’s conviction since 2008 for the charge of soliciting a minor for prostitution. He also refused, on Wednesday, to resign from his presidency of the Arab Institute in Paris, ignoring a wide wave of calls for his resignation, while awaiting what the upcoming investigations may reveal, which could completely reshape the scene.
