خرج قطار شحن عن مساره أمس في ولاية كونيتيكت الأمريكية، مما أدى إلى سقوط عربات محملة بغاز البروبان السائل القابل للاشتعال في المياه، مع احتمال تسرب الغاز منها.
وقال مسؤولون بالولاية وآخرون محليون: «إن الواقعة حدثت الساعة التاسعة صباحًا تقريبًا في مانسفيلد، بالقرب من التقاء بحيرة إيجلفيل بنهر وليامانتيك».
وأكد قائد إدارة الإطفاء في مانسفيلد جون روتش، أن عددًا من عربات القطار الـ41 انفصل وخرج عن مساره، كما سقطت أربع عربات محملة بالبروبان السائل في المياه، بينما سقطت عربتان أخريان محملتان بشحوم غذائية على ضفاف النهر، وتسرب منهما نحو ألفي جالون (7500 لتر) من الدهون الحيوانية.
وحث مسؤولو البلدة السكان على الاحتماء في منازلهم وعدم الخروج في نطاق نصف ميل (0.8 كيلومتر) من موقع الحادث، إذ إن البروبان السائل عديم الرائحة ولن يتم اكتشافه على الفور.
A freight train derailed yesterday in the state of Connecticut, USA, causing cars loaded with flammable liquid propane to fall into the water, with the possibility of gas leaking from them.
State officials and local authorities stated, “The incident occurred around 9 AM in Mansfield, near the junction of Eagleville Lake and the Willimantic River.”
Mansfield Fire Chief John Roach confirmed that several of the 41 train cars derailed, with four cars loaded with liquid propane falling into the water, while two other cars loaded with food-grade fats fell onto the riverbanks, leaking about 2,000 gallons (7,500 liters) of animal fat.
Town officials urged residents to shelter in their homes and avoid going within half a mile (0.8 kilometers) of the incident site, as liquid propane is odorless and will not be detected immediately.
